Crystal Healing: Where do I Start?
As a past owner of a crystal and metaphysical supply store, I often got the question, "Where do I start?". While crystal healing can be intimidating for beginners, it all boils down to one simple thing, belief.
Manifestation is the most important part of crystal healing. If you do not believe in and manifest the healing properties of the crystals, they might as well just be rocks.
Like all things, crystals have a unique atomic makeup, which gives them all a different vibrational frequency. These frequencies are thought to react with the body's atomic structure, which in turn promotes healing and balance within the body and mind.
While there is no scientific evidence behind the healing properties of crystals, many people have benefited from the use of them, including myself.
So, where should you start? There's no right or wrong way to use crystals, but using these guidelines, you can find a starting point and build from there.
Tip #1 - Find Crystals for You
Different crystals have different uses.
For example: Amethyst is known for aiding in stress relief, whereas Rose Quartz is known for boosting feelings of self-love.
Additionally, there are different types of categories within crystals. Most commonly found are tumbled and rough crystals.
-Tumbled crystals have been smoothed, shaped, and polished. They are usually more affordable and often found in bulk.
-Rough crystals are in their natural form and have not been altered.
It all comes down to your preference. If you feel stronger energy from rough crystals, those will be your best option. I recommend visiting your local metaphysical shop and seeing which crystals attract you the most energy-wise. If you don't have a physical shop nearby, read about different types and their properties online, and choose ones that would benefit you.
Tip #2 - Carry Crystals With You
A benefit of owning tumbled crystals is that they're more transportable.
The perfect time to use crystals healing properties is on the go. The times you need them the most, might not be at home.
For example: You're taking a test at school, and you could really use some stress relief. Carry some Black Tourmaline, Lepidolite, Blue Lace Agate, Clear Quartz, or Amethyst to help you focus and reduce stress.
So, how do you carry crystals around all day?
Some people carry around a pouch of crystals around in their pocket or bag. Others will opt for keeping a few loose stones in their car, bag, wallet, you name it. Any place or way you feel most comfortable keeping your crystals, is the right way.
Try making a crystal care pouch. It can include your favorite crystals, or the ones that you feel could benefit you that day.
Tip #3 - Intention Setting
Setting intentions while using your crystals is very important. You want to have clear intentions for the use of your crystals, otherwise you may feel they aren't guiding you with anything. Be very intentional with what you're manifesting, as different crystals have different healing properties.
For example: Labradorite is great for aiding in creativity. Maybe you're an artist who is going through a block in your imagination.
No, you don't have to talk to your crystal and tell it what to do. It can be as simple as having your intentions in mind while using the crystal. You can also try writing down your intentions.
Tip #4 - "Using" Crystals
I've mentioned the term "using crystals" several times throughout this article, which is probably confusing for most. There is no set way that you are supposed to "use" crystals.
As mentioned in Tip #2, you can carry crystals around with you throughout the day. You can keep Rose Quartz under your pillow to help you fall asleep, or Smoky Quartz to prevent nightmares. You can wear crystal jewelry. You can hold them in your hand or place them near you during meditation.
Going back to Tip #3, make sure you're setting clear intentions while using your crystals.
Tip #5 - Cleansing Your Crystals
Many people skip over this vital step in using crystals. Crystals are often used to cast away negative energy, which can often cause them to lose their healing properties and reduce their energy.
So when should you cleanse them? A good rule of thumb is every month. However, if there has been a lot of negative energy being dispelled, you should cleanse them more often.
Cleansing can be done in several different ways.
For example: Smudging your stones with herbs such as sage. You can do this by taking your crystals outdoors (so the negative energy has somewhere to go), lighting your sage, and waving it so it covers the stone for at least 30 seconds.
You can also fill a bowl with sea salt and submerge your crystal for at least 24 hours.
Some people submerge their crystals in salt water, but take caution as some crystals don't do well in water and could dissolve or crack.
Conclusion
There's no right answer on how to use crystals effectively, but using these guidelines can guide you in using them to their fullest potential. Always take caution in crystal healing, and remember that it is not a substitute for proper medical care.
